About Mrs. Shiver

Hello! My name is Amber Shiver and I am an 8th grade Literature and Language Arts teacher in a co-taught classroom. I have been teaching since 2007. I am originally from Cordele, Georgia. In 2006, I graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University (Americus, Georgia) with a B.S. in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. After graduating and being a substitute teacher, I decided that I wanted to become a certified teacher, so I got my teaching certificate through a one year practicum offered by RESA.  From 2007-2011, I taught 3rd and 4th grades in the small town of Ashburn, Georgia at Turner County Elementary School. At the end of the 2011 school year, my husband and I moved our family to Carrollton because of a coaching opportunity for him at Central High School. I began teaching 8th grade literature and language arts in 2011. Since I am certified in special education also, I work in a co-taught classroom with a general education teacher. In 2018, I had the honor of being selected by my peers as Central Middle School Teacher of the Year. My husband and I have 3 children Kate, Leah, and Ripken. It is because of my children that I believe forming positive relationships with my students and their caretakers is of utmost importance. I strive to build bonds with my students that will last a lifetime and to love and treat them as if they are my own.
