About Mrs. Smith
I grew up in Ashburn, Georgia, a small town 84 miles from the Georgia-Florida line. My career in education began in 1997 when I took a paraprofessional position at the local middle school. During that school year, I discovered a love for middle school students and a desire to help them achieve. The following year I enrolled at Valdosta State University where I earned a Middle Grades Education degree. My first teaching position was at Ben Hill Middle School as an eighth grade ELA teacher. Teaching was everything I hoped it would be. 😊 I loved the students, the teachers, the aha moments, and the search for new ways to challenge my students to think and learn. Three years later, I had the opportunity to teach at the middle school where I had spent my own middle school years, and I returned to my home school. I taught eighth grade ELA at Turner County Middle School for the next ten years. During that time, I completed a Master’s Degree in Reading, a Specialist’s Degree in Teacher Leadership, and the Gifted Endorsement. In the fall of 2013, I met my soon-to-be husband, Mark Smith. We married in July 2014, and I moved to Carrollton, Georgia. I began teaching at Central Middle School in August 2014. Since that time, the Smith family has expanded by two: Samuel and Naomi. They are both a blessing and a joy. 😊 The move to Carrollton and Central Middle School has proven to be rewarding for my family and teaching profession. I look forward to teaching your children in the near future.
