About Ms. Newsom
I have been in education since 1999, first teaching K-2 with the A Beka curriculum for 5 years at a private Christian school in Dothan, Alabama. I transitioned to Dothan City Schools in 2004 as a Teaching Assistant in a computer lab setting at Beverlye Middle School (6 years) and Accelerated Recovery Center/ARC (4 years). During the last five years of my time there, I attended Troy University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education (grades 6-12) in 2013. From 2014-2017 I taught 7th and 8th grade ELA at Dauphin Jr. High School in Enterprise, Alabama. In 2017, I moved here to Carrollton where I began my career teaching 6th grade ELA at Central Middle School, and have felt like I have been at home since the day I arrived: “Go Lions!!!” I love teaching and find joy in the many personalities from each of my students. I am truly blessed to be a part of the Central family.
My son, Heath and daughter-in-love, Francie, along with my three beautiful granddaughters, Margaret, Susan, and Hannah live in Alpharetta. My daughter, Rachael lives here in Carrollton. I attend Midway Church, and I love to walk, read, spend time with my children and granddaughters, and Miss Kitty, my sweet black cat that I adopted in May 2017.
